President Lucy Lettinen and Delegation from New Zealand’s Eastern Institute of Technology Pay a Visit

From June 14 to 16, Lucy Laitinen, President of Eastern Institute of Technology in New Zealand, led a delegation to visit our university.   

On the morning of June 14, Wu Yantao, Party Secretary of the university , met with a delegation led by President Lucy Lettinen. On behalf of the university , he extended a warm welcome to the New Zealand guests and expressed gratitude to President Lettinen for making the special trip to attend the 2026 graduation ceremony of the Wine Engineering (China-New Zealand Cooperation) program and the joint management committee meeting of the cooperative education project. Wu Yantao introduced the overall development of the universityto the visiting guests, highlighting its strengths and achievements in recent years in talent cultivation, scientific innovation, social services, talent attraction, and discipline building, with particular emphasis on the fruitful outcomes achieved through international cooperation.He pointed out that the joint brewing engineering program jointly launched by the two universities is the first of its kind in China involving cooperation between Chinese and foreign institutions in this field. Since its enrollment in 2015, it has graduated a total of 800 outstanding students, and has received widespread recognition from all sectors of society. Looking to the future, it is hoped that the two universities will further enhance communication, learn from each other, and continuously deepen the joint cultivation of talents, sharing of resources, collaborative research, and sharing of achievements. They will also expand the scope of cooperation and elevate the level of cooperation, working together to create a more closely-knit and more influential new situation of win-win cooperation and mutual benefit.

Principal Lettingin expressed his gratitude for the warm reception by the school , and highly praised the achievements of the cooperation between the two schools over the past decade. The two sides had in-depth and practical discussions on issues such as optimizing the details of cooperative education, strengthening two-way exchanges of teachers, and expanding the fields of scientific research cooperation.

On the morning of June 16th, the graduation ceremony for the Brewing Engineering (China-New Zealand Cooperation) program of the Biotechnology Engineering Department was grandly held in the first-floor lecture hall of the office building. School President Duan Pei Yong, Vice President Xu Chonghai, President of the Eastern Institute of Technology in New Zealand Lucy Lettingin, Executive Vice President John West, and Dean of the Wine Institute Sue Blackmore, as well as relevant officials from the Biotechnology Engineering Department and the International Cooperation Office, Chinese and foreign teachers representatives, 2026 graduating students and their parents representatives, all attended the ceremony.

Duan Peiyong extended sincere congratulations to all the graduates who have successfully completed their studies. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the faculty members of both schools who have been dedicated to educational cooperation between China and Singapore and have devoted themselves to educating students. He encouraged all the students to keep their original aspirations in mind, care about the country and the family, and work hard and strive ahead on the road of their future lives.

Lucy Lettingin reviewed the development process of the joint establishment of the international cooperative education program in wine engineering by the two universities. She highly affirmed the fruitful educational achievements of the program over the past ten years. She hopes that both sides will continue to work together, continuously expand the scope of cooperation and enrich the content of cooperation, and promote the friendly cooperation between the two universities to deepen further, progress steadily and achieve long-term success.

Su Blackmore presented the school commemorative gifts to the representatives of outstanding students; Xu Chonghai read out the list of outstanding graduates, and Duan Pei Yong awarded certificates to the winning students. Graduate representative Hu Hejiazi expressed her gratitude to the teachers, family and classmates, and promised to carry out the instructions of the two schools steadily and move forward. At the end of the ceremony, all the leaders and teachers took a group photo with the students.

The delegation from the Eastern Institute of Technology in New Zealand's success in their visit has further strengthened the deep friendship and practical mutual trust between the two institutions, and has also opened up new space for the subsequent multi-level exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. The institution will always adhere to the open educational philosophy, continuously deepen the cooperation programs between China and foreign countries, constantly innovate the talent cultivation model, and comprehensively enhance the internationalization level of education and the quality of talent cultivation.
